Dragomirna monastery

Dragomirna monastery was built close to a forest, near to the city of Suceava. One of the youngest monasteries, it was completed in 1609 and dedicated to the saints Enoh, Ilie and John the Evangelist.

There was an evolution in Moldavian architecture and Dragomirna features innovative proportions and elements. The gothic elements harmonise with the various decorations and statues inside. The inside frescoes are based on local miniatures and folk elements and traditional costumes are carefully represented by the painters.

During excavations, the tombs of various royals as well as Bishop Daniil Vlahovici were discovered.
